1.0 WHAT IS e-STUDY
Heedmorine Municipal Institute delivers training in Municipalities via e-Study and Full Time Study (Contact Study). e-Study (Online Study) is a training Modus Operandi that is a critical Online Training Aid which is employed for delivery of training programs that are tenable at Heedmorine Municipal Institute.
Because e-Study is Online based, the number of contact sessions between students and academic staff are effectively reduced. This is favourable to individuals who are employed because they will be able to concurrently study and work. This means that employed individuals will use e-Study to work and study at the same time.
It must be borne in mind that students who will qualify to use e-Study, will be assigned a student number and a Log-In Password after registration which they will use to Go Online on www.heed-ngo.org.za and click on Study Guides & Examination Results (Log-In) to access study material, submit assignments, receive periodic feedback, obtain examination results etc.
2.0 ADVANTAGES OF e-STUDY
By its nature, e-Study has advantages for both Heedmorine Municipal Institute and students in that it is associated with the following:
- Because it is “Online Based,” e-Study is comparatively cheaper than Full Time Study which is also known as “Contact Study”
- e-Study is comparatively convenient in that students who are enrolled for e-Study do not have to travel to Heedmorine Municipal Institute for excessive contact sessions
- e-Study users will have the luxury and benefit of registering and commencing with their studies at any time of the year
- Because e-Study effectively reduces the number of contact sessions between students and academic staff, individuals who are employed will be able to concurrently study and work

4.0 ELIGIBILITY (Who may participate in e-STUDY)
From the onset, it is essential to point out that e-Study is suitable for people who are employed in entities that are likely to provide practical training as part of the normal day to day work routine. An example of a beneficial user of e-Study is that of an Accounting Debtor’s Clerk who wishes to register for a generic short course in Book keeping with the understanding that his day to day work routine which involves data capturing for book keeping purposes, will naturally be used to capture credits for practical sessions (i.e. Workplace Integrated Learning).
The employer in this case will host such a candidate for Workplace Integrated Learning and will Technically be referred to as “Host Employers” who will appoint a specific Site Mentor whereas Heedmorine Municipal Institute will place the role of “Chief Mentor.”
To qualify to use the e-Study Modus Operandi, individuals must ideally meet with the following concomitant criteria for participation in e-Study:
- Potential participants must be provisionally admitted to Heedmorine Municipal Institute via either the normative selection criteria or via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) both which are clearly elucidated in our Prospectus
- e-Study users will have to look for appropriate Host Employers at which they will conduct their practical sessions (i.e. Workplace Integrated Learning). Note that the Host Employer and Site Mentor will first have to be approved by the REWICO office that co-ordinates academic activities and is contactable on rewico@heed.org.za
- Because e-Study is online based, potential participants will have to be Information Communication Technology competent
- e-Study participants must have unrestricted independent access to Information Communication Technology software and hardware
- Much as e-Study drastically reduces contact hours between students and academic staff, participants of the e-Study Modus Operandi will have to be prepared to travel to Heedmorine Municipal Institute for Minimum Contact Sessions in the form of tutorials and evaluations via oral, psychomotor and written assessments. To wit, the said Minimum Contact Sessions at most be once every quarter for periods not exceeding 2 working days.
Applications for the e-Study Modus Operandi must be made by completing Form APP 101. Enquiries about e-Study must be directed to the office that co-ordinates academic activities whose address is: The REWICO Co-ordinato on rewico@heed.org.za
